The Rutgers University–Camden Department of English and Communication seeks applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Digital Communication position starting in Fall 2023. Applicants must have earned a PhD in Communication or a related field by the appointment date, which is September 1, 2023. Candidates who are currently completing their PhD and expect to finish by the appointment date are encouraged to apply. Assistant Teaching Professors teach a 4/4 load with the possibility of course releases for program development and other departmental service. The successful candidate will begin on a three-year renewable contract, starting in the fall term of 2023. Those hired in full-time positions outside the tenure track have a clear pathway to promotion based on excellence in teaching and service. The Department of English and Communication has a B.A. in English as well as a number of minors, including one in Communication. The department is interested in candidates who can both teach existing courses and develop new courses in the area. Candidates should be able to teach introductory courses in digital communication focusing on the real-world production of digital media as well as advanced, theoretical-based courses. The successful candidate would teach courses that might include Digital Writing, Writing for the Web, Strategies & Tactics for Digital and Social Media, Creative Coding, Ethical Digital Design, Web and Mobile Development, Interaction Design, Participatory Media, and Social Media Evaluation and Analytics. The department is especially interested in candidates with expertise in feminist and/or postcolonial approaches to intercultural digital communication as well as those whose teaching engages digital practices in Black, Latinx, AAPI, or Indigenous communities. Rutgers-Camden is a Minority-Serving Institution with a focus on experiential learning and social justice. Particular consideration will be paid to those applicants who can demonstrate how their teaching aligns with Rutgers-Camden’s Civic Engagement mission.

In addition to teaching in the Department of English and Communication, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in a range of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs on campus, as appropriate, including Digital Studies, Africana Studies, Global Studies, Film Studies, and Gender Studies, as well as a new M.A./M.P.S. program in Emerging Media that will launch in Fall 2024.

Applicants should provide a letter of application and a curriculum vitae. Review of applications will begin on December 10. Initial interviews will be conducted via video call in January, and the department expects to conduct on-campus interviews in February and March. Questions regarding the position can be directed to Tyler Hoffman, Chair of the Search Committee, via email at thoffman@camden.rutgers.edu
