50th anniversary issue of SubStance — “Breathe”

On behalf of my co-editors, I want to share with you the publication of the 50th anniversary issue of SubStance — “Breathe.” We are delighted that, with the cooperation of Johns Hopkins University Press, the full issue is available on our website until October 15th, including several pieces by SLSA members current and past.

We curated “Breathe” to collectively think through the pressures that are being and have been placed on respiration. True to the journal’s mission, we wanted to do so in rather expansive ways—a diverse, international group of contributors produced succinct pieces in a variety of literary, visual and / or digital styles that exceed the norms of academic scholarship.

Looking forward to seeing colleagues at ASU this fall!
