hello -
in a sci, tech, and society class, we learned that breakfast cereal
was a concept created by quaker oats co. when the new threshing machine
made
it possible for them to increase their oat production by 12.  instead
of
diversifying or taking time off, they marketed food that had only ever
been
fed to farm animals.
this is but one example of designing needs based on techno.
capability. will the ever-increasing techno advances just make modern,
urban
societies even busier? will it be possible to slow down?
