Subject: Re: So how was the SLS conference?
Dear litsci-listers,
Many of us are in the midst of final exams and holiday preparations,
circumstances that could explain the silence that greeted Wayne
Miller's
request for comments on the SLS meeting (Atlanta, Georgia, USA;
October).
I am still grading papers and taking packages to UPS. But as a courtesy
to
Wayne, and so you can be preparing yourselves, I want to tell the list
that
I intend--pretty soon, maybe early 1997--to try to spark a discussion
of
Paula Treichler's role as keynote speaker and the SLS reaction to her
remarks. To my mind that was a "controversy worth reporting
on."
Happy holidays, Discourse bless us every one,
Frank Durham

Dear Frank,
Discourse had better bless us, and not wound (Fr., blesser)
us, if we are going to reprise l'affaire Treichler. It would be a good
idea to keep the discussion going as a way of articulating an agenda
for the Pittsburgh meeting, where I hope we can reach some resolution
on
matters of courtesy among the disciplines.
Happy holidays, and best to Darla.
