Subject: biocultural perspectives @ sls 97
Hello list-members:
I'm interested in organizing a seminar session for SLS '97 on "What
is a
biocultural perspective?" I envision 4 papers, 5-10 pages (thus
really
just outlining positions/ideas), two from humanists (one of whom will
be
me) and two from scientists/physicians.
Please e-mail me, not the list, with responses/ideas/etc. I'm
particularly
interested in what people think are the
topics/issues/representations/problems that scholars believe necessitate
a
"biocultural" perspective. I, for example, am interested in
breastfeeding--here, of course, biocultural perspectives abound. But
what
really is a "biocultural perspective" of the body? Thus, I'm
interested in
specific problems/issues/representations, but I want to get at the
broader
theoretical issues that such investigations suggest. A seminar session
seems most appropriate for this kind of discussion.
Again, please e-mail me with your ideas.
yours,
Bernice
