The Marriott City Center will host all of this years SLS annual
meeting events. The Marriott is located in downtown Pittsburgh,
directly
across from the Civic Arena, and within walking distance of area
attractions such as Point State Park (8 blocks), Three Rivers Stadium
(12
blocks), Heinz Hall, and the Benedum Center. Additional information
about
the Marriott City Center can be found on their website

Hotel Reservations: The conference rate at the Marriott City Center,
single
or double occupancy, is $90 per night (plus 12% state and local taxes).
To
receive the conference rate, book your room by calling the hotel at
412-471-4000 and mention that you are attending the annual meeting of
the
Society for Literature and Science. PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for
reserving
a room at the conference rate is October 7, after which the hotel will
release any unreserved rooms for general sale. You will be asked to
guarantee your first night's stay with a credit card number.
Airline Transportation: We recommend you take advantage of discounted
airfares on US AIR, negotiated for SLS. From the U.S. contact our
official
travel agency, Forbes Travel Service, at 1-800-433-8785, or at
412-521-7823, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST. From
other
locations you may, provided you identify yourself as an SLS
participant,
call collect at 412-521-7823. SLS will be awarded a certain number of
free
round-trip tickets based on the number of tickets issued by Forbes
Travel.
Transportation to the Hotel: Tickets for the shuttle to and from the
airports are $12 one way and $24 round trip. Allow 25 minutes for the
shuttle ride. Taxicab fare should be approximately $30. If you rent a
car
from the airport, follow the signs for Pittsburgh. After you come
through
the Fort Pitt tunnels and as you are crossing the Fort Pitt bridge,
take
the first exit to the right, I-376 East toward Monroeville. Next exit
onto
Grant street, following it for about 7 blocks, then turn right on 6th
avenue, and then at the second light turn left onto Center Ave. At the
next
light turn right onto Washington Place, and immediately right again
into
the Marriott City Center.
If you are coming on the PA Turnpike (I-76), take exit 6 at
Monroeville onto I-376, following it to downtown. Exit Boulevard of the
Allies and follow signs to Civic Arena. The hotel is located directly
across the street on Washington Place. From I-80, take I-79 South to
I-279
(Pittsburgh downtown) to I-579 and then 6th Avenue exit to 112
Washington
Place.
Registration and SLS Membership: Please note: in addition to
registering
for the conference, all participants must be dues-paying members of SLS
for
the 1997-98 membership year, 1 October 1996 to 30 September 1997. To
register, fill out and return the included form with appropriate
payment.
Lunch on Saturday, October 12 is included in the registration fee.
