October 11-14, 2001

Conference Theme: Technologies-Bodies-Narratives: The Accountability
of Scientific and Medical Practices

Session Proposal: Programs, Procedures, and Codes in Literary
Production

This session examines the relationship between programs (analog or
digital; cultural or technological), procedures (predetermined or
random), and codes (social or computer-language) and the means of
literary production. How have writers employed modes of rational
analysis to pique invention in literary forms? Can procedures
established in advance of composition be relied upon to generate the
text? Examples of literary production can be drawn from any period.

Please send a one-page abstract and a brief biography by April 1, 2001.
Indicate if you will need any AV equipment.
