THANKS FOR DISTRIBUTING THE FOLLOWING TO YOUR STUDENTS AND COLLEAGUES

I've put together a summer study abroad program in cultural studies in
Denmark that students might enjoy attending in May 23-July 1, 2005.
This
program aims to increase students?? understanding of Danish and
Scandinavian
culture by means of course study and extracurricular experiences. In
coursework and excursions, the program will focus on analyzing Denmark
as a
living laboratory of social and technological developments and design
innovations.

This program will be cosponsored in summer 2005 with Denmark's
International
Study Program and located in Copenhagen. I'll be teaching a Georgia
Tech
class in Science, Technology, and Ideology, which will consider the
development and reception of science and technology in Denmark and their

relation to Danish culture, socialist politics, and ideologies of social

welfare and gender equity. Specific topics include scientific careers
and
their literary representation, gender equity in labor, national identity
and
cultural politics in museum installations, and energy production and
environmental politics.

Students can also choose among other classes offered by DIS instructors,

including European Art: From Impressionism to Abstract Art, Hans
Christian
Andersen and His Universe: Texts, Contexts and Subtexts, The Jews in
Europe
from the Middle Ages to the Present, European Politics: The European
Union,
and Danish.

Students in Georgia can use financial aid, including Hope Scholarship
funds,
to underwrite their tuition expenses. And students in the program are
also
eligible to apply for DIS scholarships.

More information, including links to Denmark's International Study
Program
(http://www.discopenhagen.org) and Georgia Tech's Office of
International
Education (http://www.oie.gatech.edu), where the application is, can be

any
questions.

About a year ago I started thinking that an online, cost-free, venue
for environmental writing might be something worth a lot of effort.
After a few false starts, and a lot of encouragement, and then
participation from friends and colleagues, and Wild Thoughts Magazine
is setting a date to begin publication.

Wild Thoughts (http://www.wildthoughts.org/) will be publishing
environmental fiction and non-fiction online free of cost and free of
paper. I'm very glad to announce that we will begin publication on
February 1st 2005.

We will begin publishing essays ranging from 600 to 2000 words twice
every week and authors retain all rights to their work. The magazine
will focus on all incarnations of environmental writing, and we're
currently running low on, and searching for, creative scientific pieces.

We are searching for content, of course, but we are also searching for
advice. If you are interested in this project, and would like to be
involved, either by submitting work, by giving us some advice, or by
giving us your time and effort, please let me know.

Professors: We have received several essays from some extremely
talented students. Please keep us in mind when students produce
interesting work, we hate to think of the extraordinary falling away
and never being read.

We're all very excited about the upcomming release of our magazine and
we hope you're excited too. We need your wild ideas and you wild
words. All of us at Wild Thoughts are looking forward to hearing from
you.

Thank you,
Hank Green, Maria Kute, and Craig Dugas
