CFP: Proposal for a panel for the MLA (Modern Language Association)
Convention to be held in Washington, DC, December 27-30, 2005 on
rethinking
evolution in literary narratives
I am putting together a proposal for a panel on rethinking evolution in

literary narratives, and I would like to invite people to submit
abstracts
for proposed papers. These papers might address recent work, such as
Donna
Haraway??s work on technoscience and dog genetics, applying it to
literature,
or they may refer to historical debates about evolutionary theory as
staged
or reflected in literary texts. These are just some suggestions; papers
can
develop and/or explore any other new perspective on the relationship
between
evolution and literature.
Please email a brief, 250 word abstract to John Bruni:
jpbruni@hotmail.com
by March 15.

The people on this list may be interested to know that there is a new
mailing list for people interested in biopoetics - the application of
evolutionary theory, cognitive science and anthropology to the study of
art. To subscribe email majordomo@lists.uoregon.edu with
"subscribe
biopoet" as the text of the message (w/out quotation marks) or
reply to
me (tdolack@uoregon.edu) and I can subscribe you.
If I've sparked anyone's interest in the field I recommend
_Biopoetics_, a collection of essays edited by Brett Cooke and Fred
Turner. The list is designed for questions, bibliographic inquiries and
general discussion. All are welcome.
