Daily SLS Email Digest

From: Andrew Russ
Subject: SLS membership directory email and this list
1. I _think_ i'm sending this to the litsci-l list by
emailing to litsci-l@humnet.ucla.edu -- if it doesn't
bounce back, i should be OK (though mail has been slow
today). Anyway, the address for posting messages was not
included in the introductory postings, so i made a guess.
2. The last issue of the SLS newsletter Decodings said that
if you sent email to sls@www.gatech.edu with the subject
"SLS Directory Update", you would get back a form to
fill out the relevant info.
Well i did so and i did not get any reply, nor did my
mail bounce. Does anyone know if this is the right address
("www" isn't usually seen in email addresses), and was i
supposed
to include some message (i was assuming this was an automated
server).
Hopefully the directory can include email addresses and
web page URLs as well as more standard info. Also, perhaps it
could be put on the web (as the American Phsical Society did --
they have a password that they give to members so that non-members
(assuming they don't know the password) can't access the database).
A web version allows for more rapid updating and perhaps some
reduction in printing and postage of paper copies.
The APS web site is at http://www.aps.org, i think, and the
related American Institute of Physics site is at http://www.aip.org .
(Obviously interested parties won't be able to see the directory,
but it may give us some ideas for organizing the SLS page).
